OUTBACK Steakhouse @ Millenia Walk

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boil,
You'll come a-waltzing matilda with me.

There came a-waltzing time when the world was crumbling down and the people were hungry and poor. In the heart of town, a Tasmanian girl was in search of coins for exchange of a slice of bread. To her surprise, a kind man presented her with a piece of paper. It was a ticket. She read the words, told her other poor friend whom was also in search of fortune on the west side of town and together, they embarked on a journey to the great outback.

Along the way, they talked about their expectations of the outback. How exciting, how blessed, how they would stuff themselves silly with food. The friend sang with glee knowing that he will have a chance to eat cow meat.

Complimentary Bushman Bread – sweet and fluffy, it was really good!

Pan-seared Darling Point Crab Cakes (S$14.90) - Juicy, flaky crabcakes served with a mild remoulade sauce.

Grilled fish marsala (S$26.90) – 225 gms of dory fish served with a flavourful cream based spinach/mushroom marsala sauce and vegetables as side.

Outback Sirloin (S$27.90) - 8 ounce of seared, juicy, grain-fed center-cut.

The outback was a happy and friendly place. They were glad the children had fun and gave them another ticket, singing you'll come a waltzing matilda with me.

No, this was not near the billabong.

On the way back, the Tasmanian girl found something amusing. She counted her coins and bought herself a cup of paradise. It was very different from the outback and she seemed to enjoy it more.

Happy, they both went a-waltzing back to the harsh reality of recession.

The food was mediocre but the story is great.

...The next day, the Tasmanian girl threw the ticket back at the kind man. She ain't going back to the billabong. Luckily the parfait saved her day.

I am really Cheena-ahsoh la. Not a single pix entices me.. :( Only the flower pix manage to attract my attention..

Are those ice particles on the chestnut swirls? Gives me the impression that it has been sitting in the freezer a mite too long. And thank goodness the calf next to it wasn't hairy.. :D

Besides hearing a good story from you, I also came to know of the 'remoulade' sauce.
Would be nice to taste this sauce on my next seafood meal.

nice write-up! aye, pass by outback many many times, but didn't go in. I did took a peep inside during the last time i went to millenia walk, the atmosphere looks quite cosy!

thenomadGourmand, cool! it'll be great if you come during the sales period too! ;)

lyrical lemongrass, hits and misses lor. the crabcakes and marsala fish were good. the best part, however, is the bread! sweet, soft and warm, woah, good stuff! and thanks so much for the compliment, dear! ;)

faye, oh, that was part of the cny decoration. i thought it looked interesting, so took a few shots.

ck lam, glad u enjoyed the story! yeah, the remoulade sauce went well with the crabcakes. ohhhh, do let us know what you think of the remoulade sauce, ya! ;)

ladyironchef, yeah, actually, there are many restaurants in millenia walk. the ambiance here is more relaxed and makes a good dinner venue on weekends.

fatboybakes, i think i saw one at BV. never tried the ones in kl but this one is not too bad. the roti was really good. it's called a bushman loaf, if i recall correctly. i've not tried their premium steak though. ok lar, i'm more of a rendang guy. haha!

babe_kl, ok lar, looks like i'll hafta give the kl ones a miss. what i miss most is hokkien mee from kl. that's for sure! ;)

cumi & ciki, hahahahaha! yes, yes. but stopped last week cos was busy at work (which means no food as well, so the equation's balanced now..haha!). will hit the treadmill again this week, definitely.
